Hello Chris, Montana & Johnathan,

Have either of you compared the setting and sensitivity difference between the stock minelab 1100 DD, 1800 DD vs the new NF 16" DD using the GP Extreme or GP 3000? This is my first time posting a question.

G'day TB,

Welcome to the forum, you've become part of a very big family here I can tell you biggrin.gif .

To answer your question, coil sizes are a little like antennas on UHF radios, the bigger the antenna the better the reception.

My wife almost exclusively uses a stock 11" ML DD coil and does really well with it, however when she tried the NF 16" DD she was getting the same sized gold (tiny) which amazed here considering the coil was so large (It also weighed about the same).

When you go up on coil size you have to trade off a small amount of sensitivity to small gold especially with DD coils because of the design (what makes a DD worthwhile in the first place). I prefer the bigger coils for two reasons one is the large ground coverage for a given time and the 2nd is depth on larger gold.

Hope this answers your question,

Jonathan Porter

PS TB never feel afraid to ask a question on this forum, this is how we all learn.

Good Morning Jonathan,

Thank you for the reply. Sorry I spelled your name incorrectly. I have observed many discussions and there are many strong opinions. I think it's good that this forum creates an environment for debates. Sharing experiences is a good idea for people like myself who are excited about finding gold and enjoying the outdoor adventures.

Thanks again for sharing and your response answered my question.
