Hi guys, i'm a new detectorist in Glendale, AZ.
I've been doing coins and anything else I could find in the Phoenix area for about 3 years now, (I like to say i'll dig anything except my own grave)
I've been wanting to try gold hunting in one form or another but i'm not sure my Whites XLT would work well for the task.
I don't have the cash to buy a gold detector at the moment.
Also wondering if I need to join one of the prospecting clubs or have a claim to be able to take gold.
Any info is appreciated, thanks

You're XLT will find gold just as it is. Get a Jimmy Sierra coil for a little more sensitivity through White's or your local White's dealer. It won't find all that the Minelab will but you WILL find gold. Next suggestion is to join the GPAA(Gold Prospectors Association of America) which I believe you can do right through Chris at Arizona Outback and attend some of the local Phoenix chapter meetings. The other club I would recommend and the name slips me right now(Chris or Steve Gholson or Uncle Ron or Bill Southern or Stan the Man you know which one I mean) is located on the way to Stanton. Both clubs have lots of local places for you to hunt and probably one of the local guys would be willing to go out with you and get you started. Since you know your detector already you just have to add a little gold knowledge.
Best of luck! Find enough gold and you will be owning a GP3000 before long.
Make it a Golden Day,
Mike

Work is only a diversion of time after I get bored with detecting for gold nuggets, hunting whitetails, fishing fresh and salt water, tying flies, biking, hiking, kayaking, orienteering, ice fishing, treasure hunting with my detector, beach hunting with my detector!

The old brain works in mysterious ways. Leave it alone for a minute and it thinks all by itself!!
The club I couldn't think of is Weaver Mining District. Last I knew it is only $25.00 a year to join. They have claims up in the Rich Hill area, probably some other areas too!

"I don't have the cash to buy a gold detector at the moment."
Being unemployed i'm kind of stuck with just the whites with it's stock coil for the moment.
Maybe once the technical jobs move back to the uS i'll find work again and be able to buy something new, heh
