Most of those who are coming to the outing have great hopes of finding a nugget while here. Many may be skeptical. So what are the chances? Of course to be realistic there are no garrantees, but if past outings are any indication there will be lots of gold found. I have a few pictures of some finds that were made at past outings . These pictures are only a small sampling. As folks return in the evening with their finds the excitement builds and those who weren't successful the first day go out the next day with renewed enthusiasm and the lucky ones have most likely shared their hot spot with those who haven't scored yet. All this adds up to a better chance of finding a nugget than if you were to go out in all that vast expanse of desert alone. The first pic is Aarons beautiful specimen with lots of gold showing that was found at decision corner a few hundred yards from the camoing area.

This next pic. shows the huge quartz boulder (9 pounds) that was completely shot through with gold. After specific gravity tests were done it turned out that there was over 1 pound of gold in it. Dick and Karen found this during their vacation last year. It didn't come during an outing but it just goes to show what can happen at Rich Hill. Their total experience with a detector was 4 days!

Despite the lousy weather there have been lots of other good finds again this year. One recent find was a 2 1/2 ouncer . Earl scored a 1/4 ouncer just a few days ago. I know that there have been hundreds of other nuggets found at the hill this winter that I haven't seen or heard about. So what are the chances? It's hard to calculate but I would say that there is no better time , place, or situation for a newbie or oldtimer to do well. The excitement is contagious and beginners have just as good a chance as anyone. In fact the best finds at most of these outings have been made by those who aren't real experienced. Good luck and I'll see you there.---Bob
