This nugget came off my drywasher at GB yesterday. 2.9 grams. Ugliest nugget I ever saw.
I will take it anyway.

The second picture shows the results of 3 hrs of shoveling into the drywasher. The little piece sitting on the dime was actually found with a Gold Bug II. I heard a good signal while detecting and after my second scoop of dirt I heard a faint signal. Managed to lose the signal once and had to scoop more dirt to find it again. After getting down to a dozen or so grains of sand I was able to see the little bugger. The signal I originally heard turned out to be a piece of aluminum rivet.

Hi Guys,
If you want ugly here's one a mate and I dug recently. It would be the ugliest I have seen for a long while. Heavy but ugly. It was found with a GP3500 and a 24" Coiltek UFO coil at 24" deep.

Hi Dave,
I leave the hard rock mining to those that do their best work in the dark. biggrin.gif
I enjoy detecting and the thrill of finding new spots to detect instead of following the majority around, as it is more profitable. All the best for the new year.
Regards from QldSandy.

QldSandy,

That's a great find! Does anyone know how much they could get for that nugget? Just curious as it looks fine to me.

I have been a VLF man since the early eighties with first a ML 15000 then - A2B - ML Xt 17000 and now the ML Eureka. I have found a fair bit over the odd recreational weekends - but nothing big. I still reckon the A2B was one of the most stable machines I have ever used and it had a very crisp signal response. With a small coil would collect fly-shit sized chips and was great fun for the kids.

Alas its getting harder and harder with the VLF machines - particularly in the hot ground over here in Oz. I am now about to upgrade to a Pi machine but will keep the Eureka for the beach and for sentimental reasons. I have now retired - travelling the bush and coast with fishing rod and detectors so need to find a bit more than I used too.

Have successful and safe 2006.

Hi Dave,
As Dragonboss says it is getting harder to find gold with the VLF's. I, too, started off with an A2B and found it to be an excellent stable machine. The Goldmaster 2 was a bit of a challenge as it was a noisy bugger in comparison, but deadly on little sub 0.5 gram bits. I think that machine cured me of chasing those little ones, and having trouble seeing them without glasses helped as well. LOL. Having said that we are finding gold with the PI's, some of which the old A2B would have no trouble finding. My mate (sorry, buddy to you guys I believe, as we are definitely not attracted to each other in the slightest) that I go detecting with pinged a 6 1/2 ounce solid nugget at the amazing depth of 3". This bit had obviously seen daylight as the top side was stained that orange colour that nuggets have when they are sunbakers. So they are still around if you are lucky enough to run your coil over them.

Hi Nitro54,
Please let me say that the nugget is challenged in the beautification stakes then. biggrin.gif

Hi Bigdigger,
That piece weighs in at 414 grams and SG's at 341 of gold. I'll let you do the math for it.

Regards and Happy New Year to all.
QldSandy.
