I follow this form and a number of others and I hear about SD 2100, SD 2200, and GT 3500. I see very little posted about the 3000. Why is that????????

Howdy Jmax,

To me, the GP 3000 was basically the same as the GP Extreme, but with all the bugs worked out. It also handles hot ground a little better (see JP's "Unleashing the GP Series" DVD.) So it wasn't a vast improvement over the previous model. But there were enough improvements over the SD Series to get my attention, and I had been an ardent SD 2100 user for years. I have been back to patches that I gridded with the SD 2100 and used the 3000 on them. In each case, there was an entire layer of nuggets that were too small and/or too deep for the 2100 to see. So to me, the Dual Voltage Technology incorporated in the GP Series detectors is a definite improvement over the Multi-Period Sensing of the SD Series. The difference in depth capability between the two series is nominal; the greatest gains of the GP's over the SD's is simply better sensitivity and the ability to handle really hot ground. See JP's "The Latest Update" DVD for an excellent demonstration in this regard. I'm definitely not an expert in this area; these are merely my opinions based on personal experience in the field with these machines and observations of other operators. I hope this helps explain things somewhat for you. Good luck out there! smile.gif
