Hi All,

I had a chance to put in a few hours today near Lynx Creek. There are nuggets to be had in the creek itself and along the banks, but it is incredibly trashy. So much so, that in some places it is impossible to put down your coil with getting an overload. With this in mind I decided to target some exposed bedrock with the GPX-4000 and the Nugget Finder 14” Ellip. Mono. We haven’t had rain up this way in a while, so I was able to get down in the guts of the creek without having to wade through puddles.

Surprisingly my fourth signal turned out to be a nice 0.7-gram nugget. Lying only about a half inch in a bedrock crack, this was an easy one to get. It was small, but enough to keep me motivated as I pushed further down the creek. I eventually came to a miniature waterfall where the water had swirled around at the bottom forming a small depression. I rarely find gold in these areas and they almost always contain junk, but since I had just found a piece not to far away I decided to swing over it.

As expected I hit a target straight away; actually a few targets. I dug two bits of lead jammed down in a crack, then…BINGO! A lovely nugget weighing almost 2-grams appears amongst the lead! laugh.gif I rechecked the hole and sure enough I discovered more signals. I went on to dig another nine BB’s (probably from a shotgun), a nail, and several other fragments of lead, but not another piece of gold – go figure! The little ‘blow out’ hole had been a good trap; unfortunately it only caught one nugget.

I didn’t find anything else the rest of the day, but I went home happy with 2.6-grams of the yellow stuff in my bottle...

Nice work Chris!! Those are great nuggets.
Do you think you would have kept diggin through all the trash for the second nugget if it would'nt have been one of the first pieces of metal that came from the bedrock?

Kamikaze,

Scantily clad hula girls??? Hum...I might be tempted to hang up the detector for a week or two tongue.gif

Aaron,

I just met with Bob this morning at 7AM. He should be to your place around noon. Best of luck to you guys, hopefully it will be a little warmer than last year!

Gus,

I knew the history of this creek which is why I kept digging. Truthfully, if this had been new ground I might have walked away after digging several trash targets. I know I have probably left gold before doing this, but when there are tons of signals and only so many hours in a day, a guy has to get selective. In this case, I'm sure glad I kept at it smile.gif

Hey Chris,
"Nice-looking-Nugget",..........It almost looks like the one that I found along the Lynx last week (only mine was just 1.3 gram),...almost a brother to it in-shape. DON'T YA JUST LOVE ALL THE "TRASH" TARGETS along that creek?????,....I come out of there absolutely-"crosseyed" at times. I wish we would have a freek-storm that would completely FLOOD that entire creeks-length to the point it would wash all that overburden and trash all the way down to Phoenix. Just think of all the prime-exposed-bedrock stretches that it would open up !!!! We "local-yocals" would all be stumbling over each other in our pursuit....... cool.gif Gary
