Chris's first load of 4500s is gone already , so I don't have one yet. I,m still struggling along with the GPX4000. Since I've had other priorities over the last month , my detecting time has been cut way back anyway. I did manage to get out there yesterday though, and had a good day with some badly needed exercise. On top of the exercise I found a little gold and enjoyed some nice spring weather. I used the NF 14' E mono to snag these. I'm really itching to try the new 4500 and I'll have one as soon as the next shipment arrives, but in the meantime the 4000 is still a dynamite detector and served me well.--Bob

Bob that is a shame because I've been looking forward to reading of your honest opinions on the 4500 rolleyes.gif . Just don't slow down or ease off too much, would hate to see you left out in the cold because you're suddenly no longer needed. wink.gif tongue.gif

I know one thing is for certain if I had a detector dealership I would be all over you to hang around because you're very good for business, not only are you a very experienced and well respected prospector but also don't mind sharing your knowledge with others, a rare thing these days and probably one of the biggest assets AZO have. cool.gif

Keep your chin up Bob the wait will be worth it, Minelab are having trouble keeping up with demand for the GPX4500's here in Australia too, think about it this way soon things will be heating up which means you can have all those desert patches to yourself. I don't mind detecting in the summer heat, just a case of getting up early and packing it in as the temps start to rise.

Morning Montana! smile.gif

Don't worry dude; even though I got a 4500 from the first batch, you'll probably get to use one before I can get mine out to the goldfields here in N. Idaho. It's still snowing and probably will be until August at this rate! blink.gif ohmy.gif Looks like you're still doing fine with the 4000, though! cool.gif

Hi Montana,

Nice looking nuggets, way to go! smile.gif The 4000 is an excellent machine, but I am excited for you to try out the 4500. Unfortunately Minelab didn't have enough units to cover the preorders so many dealers are still waiting to receive their very first 4500! I have heard that the new shipments shouldn't be too far away. I have one flagged for you, but in the meantime lets get together and do some testing. Are you heading over Prescott way any time soon?

Hi Bob,

Those are some good looking nuggets no matter what you found them with. As soon as you get your hands on a 45 come on over for some real testing in the El Paso’s. The 4000 is still one sweet machine, but I’d like to see your comments on how good the 4500 really is! I’ll second what JP had to say about being an asset not only to AZO, but Minelab also. KinnyP

JP. I told Chris to fill his orders before I got mine. Betsy is still recovering from her surgery and I don't want to leave her alone too long. It was my decision and not Chris's to wait for the second shipment. It's all up to minelab as to when I get mine now. I know it will be a great machine and I'll find lots of gold with it. The winter visitors are almost all gone, and I'll have the desert to myself for the next few months. No hurry for me to get one this time as it came out at the end of our southern season. Ill post my findings and likes and dislikes as in the past along with hints on how to use it on our ground once I have a few days with it.----Bob

Bob,

Good to see that you are still out there doing what you do best. I got my 4500 about 2 weeks ago and already found a few dinks that you missed here in California. laugh.gif It's an interesting machine & seems to be much more resistant to EMI than the 4000. The integrated amp does not have the volume capability of the SuperSound amp that I have been using with an external speaker. Unfortunately, the SuperSound degrades the audio significantly so it is pretty much unusable with the 4500. The Enhance setting looks very promising based on what I have seen so far. I was planning to come to the last push at Rich Hill but have had to cancel the trip. Maybe I'll see you out this way sometime!

Michael. I was afraid the built in amp wouldn't have the power to run the external speakers to their fullest. I'll experiment and see what it is capable of. ----Bob

Uncle Ron, We may have been overlapping on some of the same ground the last few months. I'd really like to get with you to compare notes. We might be able to zero in on some more new ground.----Bob

Montana,

Now my experience with your dual speaker set-up
and the amp on the 4500
was just fine...
and I've got some seriously whacked out hearing.

What with Enhance and Stabilize and some other stuff
I found that the last thing I worried about was whether or not
I could hear the signals...they were clear as a bell.

Don't write it off yet Bob, it might work out.

All the best,

Flak

Flak. I certainly won't write it off. Just some murmers that it might not have the grunt that the Detacc does. If it has half the power it will be just fine. The detacc barely has to be turned up past the 1/4 mark. You,ve set my mind at ease.----Bob

Oh, it's got plenty of grunt, allright: when "yard-testing" my 4500 I had to turn the target volume all the way down to comfortably pin-point a near-surface 0.3 gram test nugget. If left at the FP, the target volume 'bout blew my ear drums using Montana's dual speaker system! unsure.gif

Denny. It looks like it will be full steam ahead soon as far as my detecting goes. Betsy had spinal surgery 5 weeks ago and was in the hospital for 8 days. Once I got her home she needed 24 hour care for a couple more weeks. I got out a couple of times when her relatives came to visit, but my total focus was on caring for Betsy. In the last week she has made fantastic progress and todaywe went to Phoenix for her follow up and x-rays and the doctor said everything was better than expected. She still has 2 months to go in a stiff neck brace , but she is almost totally self sufficient now. Still not allowed to drive but she's walking a couple of miles a day. If I had gotten one of the first 4500s, I wouldn't have had a chance to really use it. As soon as I can get my hands on one I'll be out there swinging it often . I know it will be awesome.----Bob

Hey Bob,

You're a man with your priorities right! Take care of family and family will take care of you. In short you are right to be sure Betsy is self sufficient if for no other reason than I know you well enough that if you were out with a new 4500 your head wouldn't be 100% with the detector ... a good part would be back home wondering if Betsy is 'fairing' OK!

So get Betsy healthy first and then when the second round comes in blast away. We'll be waiting for your instruction!

Mike
Work is only a diversion of time after I get bored with detecting for gold nuggets, hunting whitetails, fishing fresh and salt water, tying flies, biking, hiking, kayaking, orienteering, ice fishing, treasure hunting with my detector, beach hunting with my detector!

Hi Bob,

Just to "amplify" what Lunk and I were saying,
here's a page from the manual that explains about
Target Volume. I think it says it better than I can...

*Also an impt. note at the bottom of the page in
the light grey type.

Best wishes to Betsy for a speedy recovery.
That is tough surgery and it is good to know
she is up and around.

All the best,

Howdy Bob:  This morning when you called I was composing a reply to this string. I inadvertentaly pushed the wrong key and the messaage was lost.  My point was that I am please to know Betsy is making great progress on her recovery from surgery. I should have called to see how things were going for you and your fine lady. My cold is over and done with and I think it is safe for me to stop buy for a brief visit.  Thanks for checking up on me my friend. See ya soon.

Don

I should practice engaging mind before attempting to spell. By now I should know the difference between by and buy, please and pleased.

Nuff said, Don
