I have a newbies question; I was out dedtecting with my GPX-4000 over the weekend by Ely, NV and came across a target that was strong and steady as i cleared about two inches of top soil away i hit bedrock. I swept it again and had solid tone. I picked at it and chips of iron ore was collecting on my super mangnic. This was the first time i had bedrock ore body set a solid tone. Unfortuniltly i no time to expolre it further and had to leave for 4th of July parade that my kids where expecting me. I wanted to know if this is typical with ore body to set tone and not gold ?
My interests include hunting Elk and Deer in Idaho and Colorado. I also enjoy camping and the outdoors. I started highbanking for gold about 2 years ago and thats how i got into detecting. I bought GPX 4000 last year and been learning ever since and love it. I am not looking to get rich just the fun of it.

Gregg . That's not uncommon at all. iron ore if it is the magnetic type will often give a good strong signal . That is where most "hotrocks "come from. You'll find many more I garranty you. If that happens again, try switching to sensitive smooth timing. Sometimes you can ground balance it out in smooth. If it is a good strong signal and you can ground balance it out then don't worry , it's not gold----Bob
