A good friend of mine surprised me this past weekend with a really cool gift. Check out what he found while poking around an abandoned hard rock mine in California. It is a 2 lb. can of calcium carbide made by Union Carbide. Even better, the can is still intact and full! He thought it would make a great addition to my growing collection of mining memorabilia, and it does. Thanks again Craig!

Hawkeye got a reaction from clay in County of Nevada California: declare exemption or $75 fee
    Clay
I have claims in both Nevada County and Placer county.  Nevada County did not add the $75 fee to my filing fees but Placer county did. Neither county charged me property taxes.

We originally filed the claim last year, not sure if it was signed into law yet.  Nevada County allows you to use an exemption that you write on the filing form.  I forget the exact wording.   I had a claim in Nevada County back in the mid 90’s and they charged property taxes back then but not this time.

I thought I’d share some recent finds made over the weekend. My buddy Dean and I decided to head out into the Arizona desert to see if we could stir up a few nuggets. Both of us were swinging the Minelab GPX machines outfitted with the Nugget Finder 15” round EVOLUTION coils. The area we detected had already been hunted by earlier Minelab GP & SD machines, along with the Fisher Gold Bugs. Despite this, we each pulled a handful of very deep targets along with 7 beautiful nuggets. None of the pieces were exceptionally large, but we left our camp with a quarter ounce of buttery yellow gold, and for only a day & half of detecting. The 15” “EVO” has become my coil of choice for most ground that is deeper than a foot. It can easily reach out and grab targets hiding way down there, but still not sacrifice the tiny stuff; as we discovered after digging many iron shavings that would have been virtually impossible to recover without the help of a magnet…It was a little chilly camping out, but what a fun trip! Dean is a great cook and we dined on steak, drank beer, and told lies around the campfire. Thanks again my friend..
