Most recent Beach Finds

Recommended Posts

This is a continuation of my posting of beach finds which are from Southern California. I started posting most of my finds here: http://arizonaoutback.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=10360 in the Lucky Double D story line and then I made a separate posting of my Southern California Hoarde here: http://arizonaoutback.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=10517

Now I have been to the beach several times since the last posting and the forums have changed topic headings so now I will give photo updates of collections. A couple of rings, a lot of coins and trash collected are all part of the haul of a beach hunter.

Mitchel ... Continue with the great finds ... The beach is treating you very well. Hearing any speaking engagement with Pat Keene should be entertaining and educational.

Here are several different hunts with some interesting items but none with great value.

The last pictures are from a new beach in about 2 hours of hunting. I was fortunate to find some jewelry but it is not 'real' so it is close but no cigar! I'll keep searching ...

I went back to the new beach to me and found a couple of rings. One is a simple copper ring and the other is a 10K, 7 diamond, 6 emerald, 2.8g ring. I also found more jewelry than I have ever found in one day ... 13 pieces in all which took about 5 hours. The good part about it was there were few coins and not much trash. One more day with the low tides should do it for this beach for now.

I forgot ... the poker chip there ... it is really a camera. It takes a picture when you twist the top. It is ruined because of the salt water but I didn't know what it was until I opened it!

The last three pictures are of 'finds' from the same beach that only yielded the jewelry pieces from before. I had gone back to that beach the next day to find more jewelry and there were just about no targets except for one earring and one black ring. Those are the first two pictures. I went to a couple of other beaches yesterday and could only find coins coming in during the storm and a couple of balls floating around in the 3rd picture. A little storm has come through and brought up all the coins which includes lots of pennies but there was a good amount of quarters. The two rings found are not magnetic. I think the one band is white gold or platinum and it is engraved with a love message and date of 4-11-11. The other ring is just a cheap metal with a couple of the fake diamonds missing. Lots of targets but they can all disappear in a day or two. Some waves deposit and other waves take it back out.

Thanks Terry. It is nice to know someone keeps looking at them. Late today I went back to the same beach and I guess that is too many times in a row. Coins and trash and I was 'bored' with the beach but before I went home I went to a more popular beach and saw that it had been dug by other metal detectors recently as the holes were there and then among all of the holes I got a hit and came out with one of my more interesting finds. It is a 16 g sterling bracelet that probably has a 1 g gold sun on it. The name of the bracelet is on the back as Orca/Sun/Eagle with the W DF initials near it. I have looked for something similar on the net but can't find the artist who might have made it. I would appreciate any help to know its origin.

Another day of WAVES and I managed to get out and find an 11.7 g platinum ring! How does someone tell what the % is on platinum jewelry. Well, this one fits me so I just need to pull the trigger with the gf! Later ...

Nice!!! Congrats!!

Platinum content is usually expressed as the amount of pure platinum the jewelry contains in parts per thousand. Jewelry that contains at least 950 parts per thousand of pure platinum may be marked or described as "Platinum"

  • Jewelry that contains 850, 900 or 950 parts per thousand of pure platinum may be marked "Plat" or "Pt" if a number is used in front of the term to disclose the amount of pure platinum in the mix, such as
    • "850 Plat" or "850 Pt", or
    • "950 Plat" or "950 Pt"

[*]Jewelry that contains at least 950 parts per thousand of platinum group metals, with at least 500 parts per thousand of the total pure platinum, may be marked as platinum as long as the numbers of each metal are disclosed. For instance,

    • "600 Pt. 350 Ir." or 600 Plat. 350 Irid." for 600 parts pure platinum and 350 parts iridium
    • "550Pt. 350Pd. 50Ir." or "550Plat. 350Pall. 50Irid." for 550 parts pure platinum, 350 parts palladium and 50 parts iridum

Thanks Terry. That is a PLATINUM education! This one just says Platinum so I guess it is 95%. It has no other markings. It is about time to go out looking again one time before my Trip to Prescott Valley.

I went out tonight for about 3 hours and I'll just call it the night of chains ... I found two. One with a heart attached is 925 silver and I doubt it is a real diamond. Whomever lost it never took the tag off but I can't recognize the V. The other chain is iron with a cruse-fix and the chain is also magnetic. The little scotty dog is interesting. With all of these things on the beach I kind of hate to leave but the desert is calling! More beach finds later.

I went out tonight and was treated with not one but two of the best fireworks shows I have ever seen on Manhattan Beach Pier! While the fireworks were great the waves have taken the targets back and very little to show for my 6 mile walk but it was still a good night. I did get a Susan B. More later ...
