Have a buddy who is looking for a detector that can be used at the salt water beaches, fresh water rivers and lakes, and also coin shoot and nugget shoot. And only wants to spend about $600.00 new or used. I don't know much about detecting wet conditions or detectors used for that purpose. Any suggestions on detectors pros and cons Thanks for any help In addition my buddy is new to detecting and easy to use would be nice!

I have been waiting to see if the OP would respond before I chimed in - but I guess not. I have a much different take. The Minelab 705 may be good for coin and nuggetshooting (provided you buy the correct coils), but it is pretty much useless on wet saltwater sand or in saltwater. The AT Pro may be good for coinshooting and in Freshwater, but as far as nuggetshooting or in the saltwater it is second rate at best.

If you want to hunt a saltwater beach you need a multi-frequency or pulse induction machine. You can get a Tesoro Sand Shark, and a Fisher Goldbug Pro, but $600.00 will just buy one of these two machines.

I have used a xterra70 on wet salt water beaches...it may not be the very best choice but it is certainly a good choice for the price point...even the mono coil will work on the wet salt beach...

Doesn't Tesoro have a unit ? I seem to remember a "Shark" of some kind. I think there were actually 2 of them.
