Wildflowers and Gold!

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

Well if you haven’t taken a drive through the desert in the past few days, you really should. The last bout of moisture and warmer weather has really transformed the landscape. The usually barren, drab hillsides are now a sea of color. Everywhere you look you can find bright yellows, orange, pinks and more; it is really beautiful. It’s not so good for the allergies, but it sure makes for some beautiful photos!

Dean and I were able to get away over the weekend for a bit of prospecting and came up with a few finds. We have detected this area fairly good, so most all the easy targets are long gone, but by using bigger coils and slowing down, we managed to pull another five nuggets off the patch. I was swinging the GPX 5000 with the Nugget Finder 15” EVO coil, and Dean with the GPX-4500 and 14x9” EVO coil. I didn’t lob onto any big chunks, but Dean scored a gorgeous ½-ounce specimen right at the tail end of the trip. It is one of those classic specimens with milky white quartz and a bright ribbon of yellow metal running through it. A great piece. There will be more in there somewhere, but I have a hunch it will have to wait until next fall. The weather has shifted and probably in another two weeks that place will be 100 degrees. We will have to abandon the lower goldfields for a while and plot & plan until next October. Anyway, it was a great trip and I thought you all would enjoy seeing a few photos…Happy Hunting everyone! :)

Nice finds guys !!

The desert is looking pretty awesome these days.... B)

I'm hoping for some April showers and maybe a bit of an extension of the 'detecting season'.

Spent the weekend in San Diego. Had a great time, but couldn't help but think of you guys out there searching for gold. :D

Glad you found some... :)

One of the nice things about having a X-ray machine in my office is that I can do cool stuff like this...

Radiograph of the specie from the side.

The opposing view from the end.

Pretty good visual ratio of gold to stone. The total weight is 18 grams. We estimated approx. 9 grams of gold prior to these shots. From the looks of these films it may be more than that. Have to do a SG test to be sure.

Hey Dean, based on the dark white area, which I'm assuming is the most dense, that specie appears to be mostly gold. I bet you get 12-grams at least out of it. As soon as my father gets back to AZ I can have him do an SG test for you. He has all the equipment and even modified his own formula based on different types of hot rock. Or...we can just have a few drinks and whack it with a sledge hammer and pan it out! :D
