The Big Bug Outing Nov 2017!

Recommended Posts

This past weekend I was invited to come and speak to the Big Bug Mining District at one of their field outings. For those that aren’t familiar with the group, they are an Arizona based gold prospecting club that meets every third Thursday in the town of Mayer, AZ. They have numerous claims in the central AZ region and are truly a wonderful group of people.

We all met up Saturday morning then started the long trek into the backcountry. The scenery in this part of the state is some of the prettiest in the Bradshaw Mtns. Once at the claims we gathered together and discussed a variety of metal detecting topics, such as the importance of ground balancing, coil size & selection, the mental aspects of detecting, and basic gold geology. My prospecting partner Dean came along and generously shared his own personal experiences and many valuable prospecting tips with the group. The weather was perfect and the company was even better. I saw nothing but smiles during the day, so I’d say everyone enjoyed this excursion into the goldfields.

I’d like to thank Owen, Kurt and the rest of the members at Big Bug Mining District for the invite and camaraderie. I’d like to also personally thank Dr. Dean for his amazing support. We appreciate the hospitality and look forward to hunting with you all again soon. If you would like more information on the club, please visit their website at: www.bigbugminingdistrict.com, or you can also find them on Facebook.
